Gladys Elaine "Granny" Smith, 67

The daughter of Charles Jarod Spicer and Mildred Irene (Ott) Spicer, was born Aug. 2, 1937, in Holland, Ohio. Gladys Elaine Smith, the daughter of Charles Jarod Spicer and Mildred Irene (Ott) Spicer, was born Aug. 2, 1937, in Holland, Ohio. She departed this life on June 17, 2005, at the age of 67 years.

In Sept. 1958, Gladys and Billy Ray Smith were united in marriage in Tucson, Ariz.

Gladys was lovingly called Granny by her family and friends, even before moving to the Ava area in 1974, from Tucson, Ariz. She used that title to name the store she owned and operated in Goodhope and was know and loved by all in the community. Her hobbies included knitting and gardening. She loved being with her family and her many friends.

Granny was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Norma Jean Tombaugh; and a daughter, Lora Ann Smith.

She is survived by a son and a daughter, Robbie Smith and Sonia Kay Smith, both of Ava; a grandson, Garrett Smith; a great granddaughter, Hallie Nichole Smith; three brothers, Howard Spicer, Oldfield, Dale Spicer, Tucson, Ariz.; and Martin Spicer, Oldfield; one half-brother, Dan Spicer, Tucson, Ariz.; and host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside service was Tuesday, June 21, in the Ava Cemetery, Ava, with the Rev. Vernon Fuller officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Jude or to the American Cancer Society. Services were under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
