Nellie Mae Norman, the daughter of John D. Harnden and Mabel R. (Dougherty) Harnden, was born April 26, 1912, in Ava, and departed this life April 29, 2005, at the age of 93.
Nellie was resident of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., for the past 12 years moving from Ava. In Ste. Genevieve she lived at the Riverview at the Park Nursing Home for five years. In Ava she lived at Red Bud Village for 14 years.
On July 30, 1935, Nellie and Glenn Norman were united in marriage in Ozark, and to this union three children were born.
Nellie and her husband, Glenn, co-owned and operated a grocery store in Ava. She also worked at the Ava Department Store. Nellie was a terrific seamstress and loved quilting and needlework. She also loved cooking and playing cards, and being with family. Nellie was a member of the Highway Church of the Nazarene in Ava.
Preceding Nellie in death were her parents; eight brothers and sisters; and her husband, Glenn.
She is survived by one son, Ronnie Norman, Ava; two daughters, Janice Sutherland and Joyce Ann Norman, both of Ste. Genevieve; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ellen Dilsaver, Nixa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 2, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating. Interment was in Ava Cemetery.
