Esther E. Currier, 78

Esther E. Currier, the daughter of Frank Davey and Nora (Kling) Davey, was born Oct. 27, 1926, in Davenport, Iowa, and departed this life April 22, 2005, following a long illness, at the age of 78.

Esther was raised by Ada (Rose) Athey. On Oct. 31, 1942, Esther and William Johnson were united in marriage and to this union four children were born. Mr. Johnson preceded Esther in death in 1959.

On May 13, 1960, Esther and Floyd Currier were united in marriage in Iowa City, Iowa. Esther has been a resident of the Ava area for the past 24 years, moving here from Buffalo, Iowa.

She was employed as a secretary in the Ava courthouse for eight years. Esther was a Christian and attended Sweden Church, and sang bass in the church choir. She was an accomplished pianist.

Preceding Esther in death were her parents, one infant son, and one stepson, Floyd Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Floyd, of the home, Ava; four children, Jane Stahler, Rocklin, Calif., Pamela Mills, Davenport, Iowa, Mark Johnson, Bettendorf, Iowa, and Tod Currier, Ava; four stepchildren, Roger Currier and Arvena Means, both of Davenport, Iowa, Evelyn Spicer, state of Missouri, and Brian Currier, state of New York; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Francis Grones, Minneapolis, Minn.

Esther will be missed by her loving family and special friends, Norva, Vickie, Barbara and Kathy.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 25, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Robert Grisham and Marvin Loftin officiating. Interment followed in the Sweden Cemetery.
