Cora Eileen Wendland, 62, Ava, passed away Monday, April 18, 2005, in Cox South Hospital, Springfield. She was born Oct. 25, 1942, in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Glen and Mildred Frances (Baker) Clancy.
On April 24, 1964, she was united in marriage to Charles Wendland in Lincoln , Neb., and this union was blessed with two wonderful children.
Eileen was employed by the Douglas County Health Department/Home Health Care Agency as a health care provider since the agency opened approximately 30 years ago.
Eileen’s kind and caring manner was renowned throughout the agency, as well as the community at large. She preformed her duties never drawing attention to herself, was very attentive to details, provided assistance to the needy, made phone calls of reassurance to anxious clients, and always prided herself with the quality of her work.
Eileen was a loving and wonderful mother, grandmother, and a devoted caring wife. For her children, she eased the transition from mother to friend with great love and made lasting memories. She was “everyone’s glue” always holding everything together while extending her gracious hospitality and love. Eileen’s tiny frame measured 4 feet 11 1/2 inches and she always wanted to be 5 feet tall, but to her family and friends she measured 10 feet tall.
Eileen embraced the Baptist faith as a member of the First General Baptist Church, Ava. She depended on her faith for her spiritual and social life, always demonstrating her love for Christ with compassion and encouragement.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Eileen is survived by her loving husband of 40 years Charles “Chuck” Wendland; son Charles “Flint” Wendland and wife Staci of Bolivar, Missouri; daughter LaDonna McVay and husband Mark of Warren, Arkansas; two sisters Kathyrn Batterson and husband Max of Unionville, Iowa, and Rose Green and husband Jim of Centerville, Iowa; nine grandchildren; nieces, nephews, several co-workers and many loving friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Thursday, April 21) in the First General Baptist Church, Ava, under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava, with Rev. Robert Roberts officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, in Exline Cemetery, Exline Iowa.
