Orbrey (Jim) Shindler, 90

Orbrey (Jim) Shindler was born Dec. 23, 1914, in Almartha, Mo., the son of Enoch Shindler and Hattie (Yates) Shindler. Orbrey died Sunday, April 3, 2005, in Olathe, Kans., at the age of 90 years.

On Nov. 28, 1935, he married Eska Faye James, and the couple ran the family farm in Almartha. They were married for 65 years.

Orbrey was baptized Oct. 6, 2005, with 26 family members present. He faithfully attended church services at Johnson County Nursing Center where he lived.

Orbrey was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also loved baseball, playing bingo, going to sales, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a volunteer for the Wasola Fire Department as well.

Orbrey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eska, on Nov. 23, 2000; his son, Jimmie Ray, on April 28, 2000; a grandson, Michael Leon Roberts; two brothers, Orville and Bill; and two sisters, Ethel and Bernice.

Orbrey is survived by two daughters, Pat Smidt and husband Larry, of Pauline, Neb., and Earlene Roberts and husband, Bill, of Olathe, Kans.; a daughter-in-law, Nadine Shindler-Markie and husband, Bob, of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 8, 2 p.m., in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava, with E. J. Hampton officiating. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m., one hour before the service time. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Wasola. Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Grove, Souder, or Herndon Cemeteries.
