Lawrence C. Wallace, 54

Lawrence C. “Larry” Wallace, 54, of Rock Island, Ill., died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer. Services were held Monday at the Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial was in the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with military rites conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 299.

Larry was born Oct. 21, 1950, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Lester and Genevieve Fitzgerald Wallace. He married Robin Reeh on May 26, 1978, in Rock Island, and they were married for 27 years.

Larry worked as a computer technician at Kone Elevator Company. Earlier he had worked as an engineer for the Rock Island Railroad, and was employed by the City of Rock Island.

Larry graduated from AIC as a Microsoft certified technician. Larry was an avid golfer and coached Rock Island-Milan little league baseball for many years and then became active in umpiring. One of Larry’s greatest loves was coaching the Rock Island “Little Rocks” football teams.

Mr. Wallace served his country for two years with the United States Army during the Vietnam era.

Survivors include his wife, Robin; sons, Christopher Lawrence Wallace and Casey Lawrence Wallace, both of Rock Island; his parents, Lester and Genevieve Wallace, Davenport, Iowa; a brother and wife, Joe and Claudia Wallace, Bettendorf, Iowa; sisters and their spouses, Brenda and Chris Wallace-Gingry, Rock Island, Ill., and Lisa and Tracy VanDamme, Davenport, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Marilyn Amato; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Scott and Lynn Reeh, Coal Valley, Ill., and Mike and Margaret Reeh, Rock Island, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Penny.

Larry was preceded in death by his brother Ron “Lumpy” Wallace.
