Gladys Edna Hutchison, daughter of John Fiane Spurlock and Eva Evelyn Currier Spurlock, was born Aug. 2, 1908, in Sweden, Mo., in Douglas County, and passed away on March 28, 2005, in Stockton, at the age of 96.
Gladys was a resident of Stockton for the past nine years. She was a member of the Seymour Church of the Nazarene and a former member of the Ava Highway Church of the Nazarene.
On Nov. 7, 1931, Gladys and Russell William Hutchison were united in marriage in Hartville, and to this union two sons were born. Gladys started teaching school at the age of 17 in rural schools in southern Missouri counties and retired from teaching in the Ava school system.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Robert, in 2000, and 11 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a son, Royce Hutchison and wife, Faye, of Stockton; a grandson, Royce Hutchison Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Royce Hutchison III, Joyce Hutchison, and A.J. Hutchison; one great-great-granddaughter, Autumn Hutchison; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 1, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. John Moles and Paul Buchanan officiating. Interment followed in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Terrill officiating. Memorials may be made to Gideons International.
