Granville D. "Bud" Akers, 72

Granville Dean “Bud” Akers, 72, Squires, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, in Tunica, Miss.

Bud was born Sept. 13, 1932, in Norwood, the son of Virgil and Ethel (Mulkey) Akers. On July 3, 1981, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Turner in Longrun, Mo.

Bud was a caring, loving person with a wonderful personality and was known as a jokester with a good sense of humor. He enjoyed bluegrass music, fishing, gardening and traveling. He was a selfless man who often gave to help others. His willingness to proudly accept a 10-gallon pen award for donating blood to the Red Cross to benefit others was a sign of his generosity. Ultimately he will be remembered for his love of his children, and dedication to his family.

He was preceded in death by both parents and four brothers.

Bud is survived by his wife Evelyn, three sons Jerry Akers of Mtn. Grove, Phillip Akers and wife, Monica, of the state of California, and John Akers and wife, Chrystal, of Ava; two additional children, Ricky and Vickie; one sister, Carol Akers, of Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers, Wallace Akers and wife, Irene, of Mtn. Grove, Russell Akers, of the state of Idaho, and Leon Akers and wife, Gloria, of Cabool; seven grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services for Bud will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 4, in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Dale Roberts and Gaylon Turner officiating.

Burial will follow in the Thornfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight (Thursday) in Barnes Family Funeral Home.
