Bernard Heard was born one of three children to Blaine and Gertrude Harvey Heard in Omaha, Neb., on Oct. 14, 1938, and departed this life on Feb. 26, 2005, in Springfield.
Bernard grew up in the Norwood area and spent most of his life in the Kansas City area where he drove trucks, working last as a spotter for a large warehouse.
On July 26, 1958, Bernard and Joann Hopper were married in Mountain Grove, and to this union two children were born. He loved to watch NASCAR races, fishing with family, he will be greatly missed by loved ones and in quiet times he read all types of literature, but most of all he loved being with family. Bernard was a member of the Teamsters Union, a Mason, and made his profession of faith at a young age.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Joann, of Lee’s Summit; two children, Debra Heard, of Overland Park, Kans., and Greg Alan Heard, and fiancee, Brandy Rhodes, of Lee’s Summit; two grandsons, Alan and James Heard, of Lee’s Summit; his father, Blaine Heard, of Rogersville; and two sisters and their husbands, Sherry and Randy Huff, Sparta, and Donna and Jerry Smith, of Rogersville.
Bernard was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude.
Memorial services for Bernard Heard will be Saturday, March 5, 2 p.m., in Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Rev. Oscar Cunningham officiating. Burial to follow in the Brushyknob Cemetery.
