Bennie J. Johnson, age 63, of Amboy, Ill., died at KSB Hospital in Dixon, Ill., on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005. He was born in Smallett, Mo., on Aug. 25, 1941, the son of Earnest and Lela (Wilkinson) Johnson.
He was employed by Luja Tiling and Excavating in Amboy for 31 years. He was a member of the Musician’s Union and had played with two local bands, the Country Playboys and the Rhythm Ramblers.
He was united in marriage to Susan Hintz in Dixon, Ill., on Oct. 2, 1976.
He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Barbara Lee Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Susan, of Amboy, Ill.; four sons and their spouses, Bobby Johnson, Ark., Tony and Tami Johnson, Amboy, Ill., Bennie, Jr. and Anne Johnson, Tenn., David Johnson, Dixon, Ill.; two daughters, Lela “Cricket” and Dan Spurgeon, Dixon, Ill., and Debbie Johnson, Amboy, Ill.; six grandchildren; his mother, Lela Johnson, Squires; two brothers and their spouses, Bill and Fannette Johnson, Maui, Hawaii, Lennie and Ann Johnson, Squires; four sisters and their spouses, Imogene and Bob Entwistle, Ava, Marcelene and Ben Casey, Ozark, Gloria and Dwain Moore, Ava, and LaVella and Carl Streight, Ava; and several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be Friday, March 4, 10 a.m., at the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, with the Rev. Dwain Moore officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Ava. Visitation is Thursday, March 3, from 6-8 p.m. at Clinkingbeards. There was also a visitation on March 1 at the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy, Ill.
Memorials can be made to the Amboy Fire Dept. or Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
