Alta Agnes Freeman, 81

Alta Agnes Freeman, daughter of the late Robert and Jeanetta (Walker) Allen, was born on May 11, 1923, in Wright County, and departed this life on Feb. 25, 2005, at her daughter’s residence in Ozark, following a short illness. She was 81.

Alta grew up and attended school in Wright County and was united in marriage to Lester Freeman on July 4, 1940, in Norwood. Nine children were born to this union. They raised their family on a farm south of Mtn. Grove where they remained until her passing.

Alta loved taking care of her family and working on the farm. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, and visiting with her many friends and neighbors.

Alta loved the Lord and had made a commitment several years ago and had attended area churches throughout her life.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Freeman; one daughter, Joy Bell Freeman; a granddaughter Sheila; a great-grandson, Tyler; three brothers, Nells Allen, Emmett Allen and Lester Allen; and by one sister, Mildred Swain.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Lester Freeman, of their home; five sons, Don Freeman and his wife, Linda, of Mtn. Grove, Troy Freeman and wife, Ann, of Norwood, Roy Freeman and wife, Linda, of Ava, Dennis Freeman and wife, Teresa, of Mtn. Grove, and Clay Freeman and wife, Marsha, of Mtn. Grove; two daughters, Bonnie Field and husband, Fred, of Elk Creek, and Sherry Miller and husband, Mark, of Ozark; three brothers, Bob Allen, of Graff, Jess Allen, of Norwood, and Gene Allen, of Mansfield; two sisters, Verba Holdt, Springfield, and Mary Allen, Mansfield; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, in the Craig-Hurtt-Bradley Chapel, Mtn. Grove, with the Revs. Mike Freeman and Reg Kelly officiating. Burial was in Brushy Knob Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt-Bradley Funeral Home.
