Neil E. Stillings, son of Ray E. Stillings and Mary Ethel Haynes Stillings, was born on Sept. 11, 1925, in Arno, and passed away on Feb. 20, 2005, in Forsyth,, at the age of 79.
Neil was a resident of Forsyth, for the past six years moving from Ava where he lived most of his life. Neil was a street and water supervisor for the City of Ava for over 20 years. He also was Volunteer #7 for the Ava Fire Department. He became a member of the Mt. Tabor General Baptist Church in 1954 and he was a World War II veteran.
On Sept. 9, 1950, Neil and Ima D. Thomas were united in marriage in Mtn. Home, Ark., and to this union two children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Fayma Geraldine Marten.
Survivors include his wife, Ima, of the home in Forsyth; one son and wife, Arliss Ray and Linda Stillings, Forsyth; one daughter and husband, Jennifer Kay and Keith Dougherty, Branson; four grandchildren, Elisha Neil and Jonas Peter Stillings and Kelsey Christian and Darby Keegan Dougherty; three brothers, J.B. “Benny” Stillings, Ava, Stanley Stillings, Fulton, and Lawrence Ray Stillings, Ava; one sister, Florence Albin, LaPine, Ore.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating. Interment will be in the Ava Cemetery with full military honors by Douglas County American Legion Post 112 and Ava VFW Post 5993. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time.
