Dora Maggard, the daughter of John W. Nelson and Barbara Ellen (Applegate) Nelson, was born June 4, 1907, in Douglas County, and departed this life Feb. 21, 2005, at the age of 97.
On Nov. 4, 1924, Dora and Henry Maggard were united in marriage in Ava and to this union three children were born.
Dora was a resident of the Eastern Gate community for most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Gate Church. She loved crocheting, planting flowers and gardening.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; three children, Floyd Maggard, Hollyce Smith and Leona Herries; one grandchild; three brothers; and five sisters.
She is survived by two sons-in-law, Tom Herries, Taylor, Texas, and James Smith, Rogersville; one daughter-in-law, Wanda Maggard, of Ozark; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 24) in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Joe Lafferty officiating. Interment will be in the Hall Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
