Effie Marie Cox, the daughter of William Columbus Fleetwood and Mary Jane (Cummins) Fleetwood, was born Jan. 2, 1919, in Webster County, Mo., and departed this life Feb. 2, 2005, at the age of 86.
Effie and Orval Cox were united in marriage March 14, 1936, in Ava, and to this union five sons were born. Effie was a homemaker and wrote the Beaver Community news for the Douglas County Herald for many years.
Effie attended Beaver Valley Full Gospel Church.
Effie was preceded in death by her parents; 12 brothers and sisters, her husband, Orval, three grandchildren, Roxeanne Cox, Steven Cox and David Cox.
Effie is survived by five sons, Dale and his wife, Macel Cox, Seymour, Keith Cox, Hyrum, Utah, Doyle and his wife, Mona Cox, Mansfield, Glenn Cox, Springfield, and Ronald Cox, Ava; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Fleetwood and wife, Pauline, Strafford; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside service was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5 in the Hodge Cemetery in Webster County, with the Rev. Bobby Simmons officiating. Services were under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home of Ava.
