Lula M. Hodges, 78

Lula M. Hodges, daughter of John Hammons and Mary Ann Nance Hammons, was born on May 25,1926 in Witty, Mo., in Douglas County, and passed away on Jan. 6, 2005, in Ava, at the age of 78. Lula was a resident of the Ava community for the past 10 years moving from Bradleyville. She was a housewife.

On June 20,1945, Lula and Lewis Hodges were united in marriage at Witty, and to this union six children were born. Lula was a member of the Highway Church of the Nazarene, Ava, and a member of the Happy Homemakers of Ava. She loved to quilt, and always looked forward to church trips.

Lula was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis in 1994; a son, Dale, in 1996; twin infant daughters; two brothers and one sister.

Her survivors include four sons and their spouses, Harvey and Susan Hodges, Bradleyville, Randy “Boon” and Dawn Hodges, Chadwick, Jerry and Jackie Hodges, Bradleyville, and Tom and Beverly Hodges, of Squires; one daughter and husband, Shirley and Jackie Hall, Bradleyville; one daughter-in-law and husband, Kim and Scott Davis, Ava; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters and their spouses, Maxine and Delmar Hodges, Springfield, and Cecil and Fred Sartin, Douglas, Kan., one brother and wife, Howard and Pat Hammons, Wichita, Kan.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, with the Rev. Dustin Ledford officiating. Interment was in the Mills Cemetery.
