Johnnie William Sawyer, the son of Rex Sawyer and Thelma Adams Sawyer, was born Aug. 1, 1933, in Goodhope, Missouri, and departed this life Jan. 12, 2005, at the age of 71 years 5 months and 11 days.
Johnnie was a resident of the Ava area for most of his life. Johnnie served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post 112. May 28, 1958, Johnnie and Joretta Walker were united in marriage in Goodhope, and to this union two children were born. Johnnie was owner of a Sawyers Station and Used Cars and always enjoyed trading. On his days off he enjoyed fishing and playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Johnnie is survived by his wife, Joretta, of the home, Ava; one son, Rex and wife, Sarah Sawyer, Ava; one daughter, Johnna Beth and husband, Jeff Russell, Republic, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Fallon and Jessie Sawyer, Ava; Lindsey and Eryn Russell, Republic, Mo., and one sister.
Services were held Saturday, Jan. 15, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava with the Rev. Nolan Carrier, Rev. Robert Roberts and Rev. B.J. Evans officiating. Interment followed in the Ava Cemetery.
