Leola Wintjen Hale was born Nov. 24, 1931, in Oklahoma, the daughter of Gid and Ida Rogers Bice. She departed this life on Dec. 31, 2004, at the age of 73.
Leola lived most of her life in the Ava area. She married Johnny Wintjen in Moline, Ill., in 1957. Leola enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and talked often of her small dog, Nancy. Leola was of the Pentecostal faith.
Leola is survived by four daughters, Leona Hamilton and her husband, Thomas, of Claremore, Okla, Darlene Carnall and husband, Harry, Mansfield, Kathy Ronzonleon and husband, David, Mansfield, and Wanda Ramsey and husband, Bob, Nixa; two sons, Earl and Brenda Brown, of Nixa, and Johnny and Marion Wintjen, of Ava.
She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, along with two sisters, Wanda Andrews, Kerrville, Texas, and Kay Peak, Ava; one brother, Eldon Bice, Ava; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating. Interment was in Huffman Cemetery. Services are conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home.
