Anita L. Cory, daughter of Oscar Leverenz and Mary Taylor Leverenz, was born Feb. 3, 1917, in Milwaukee, Wisc., and passed away on June 10, 2004, in James River Care Center in Springfield, at the age of 87. Anita was a resident of the Smallett community since 1977.
On Oct. 1, 1977, Anita and Byron Cory were united in marriage in Springfield. She was a registered nurse and worked in Milwaukee as a newborn nursery manager. Anita was a member of the Walnut Grove General Baptist Church. She was a lifelong caregiver to all.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Byron, in 1994; two infant sisters; one brother, Robert Leverenz; and one nephew, Richard Leverenz.
She is survived by one brother, Oscar Leverenz and wife, Peg, Fayetteville, Ark.; four stepdaughters, CloElla Leverenz, Springfield, Uva McHarg and husband, Jim, Albany, Ohio, Suanne Sutherland and husband, Jerry, Ava, and Charlene Luallen, Memphis, Tenn.; four step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, at the Walnut Grove Cemetery with Pastor Maxine Lund officiating. Memorials may be made to the Walnut Grove Church building fund.
Services were under direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
